Kind of a strange tale, this one. A mash up of wizards, demons, and Greek mythology, with a geeky ballerina thrown in for good measure. It definitely kept me reading to the end, but this story rambled all over the place with so many different elements that, for the most part, made little sense and didn't clarify the story line much.

The main characters' angst about being 'different' got a little old after a while, annoying, really - I was wishing for Demi and Dylan to grow a little backbone. If I had a gift to bloom plants profusely I'd become a Johnny Appleseed rather than a shrinking violet. She's insecure, yet she dances like a prima ballerina? He controls the weather, any kind of water, and sings like a rock star, but he can't fight back against a tyrant and bully? And what's with the "Godless human" bias? Slightly offensive to anyone who happens to be one, or the other, or both. I kept waiting for the Elf Queen to show up and claim them both as her long lost children. But no, we had to travel to the underworld and see what the dead people were up to, trying to cross that river named after an 80's rock band...

The mythological references really just added to the confusion. And I think the author missed a great opportunity for a truly interesting character when she literally demonized the antagonist rather than exploring the dark yet somehow attractive nature of death and its function in our human cosmology. But wait, the main characters weren't human. They were only raised by them. Silly demigods. Tricks are for kids.

Yes, a strange mashup of Potter, Twilight, and Percy Jackson. I kept reading just to find out if there might be a little more clarity thrown in there somewhere. I was disappointed more often than not.

With that said, I'll give this author one more chance by reading another of her books, but if it isn't any better or more coherent than this one, I'm out.

I enjoyed this love story about a ballerina named Demi and her love interest, Dylan. They worshiped Gods, but it was still interesting. Then they were off to Saratoga.
What a four leaf clover this book was in a sea of shamrocks!! I picked it up thinking it would be a cute little book and it blew me away!! Absolutely loved it!!
I loved "Saratoga" The little girl growing up afraid, the young woman dancing, the boy she met and fell in love with. It is definitely something you won't find every day, which will haunt you. The characters are very well developed, the imagery and the plot wonderful; you'll love it if you're into fantasy.
I found Saratoga quite invigorating and intriguing. As the book progressed the reader begins to realize more and more of what is going on. Unfortunately, about 2/3 of the way through the author shifted and took the obvious route instead of continuing to make her characters unique and capable of standing alone without using mythological characters.
This story begins with a girl who has power over plants, and parents who try to help her exist in the world without anyone finding out about her power. Eventually, she meets someone who can help her understand this power. Then, things turn dark. I liked this story in the beginning and the middle, but I did not like the way it ended, and how dark it became. Frankly, at that point, I just wanted it to end. The story is very creative and descriptive, but it almost seems like two stories fused together.
This book was a big surprise for me, mainly because I didn't read about it before I ordered it on my . I spent 52 years of my life in Saratoga Springs and I thought it would be interesting to read about sites that I knew. WRONG!!!. Yes, the Performing Arts Center was and is still there. But one trafic light? Saratoga is much bigger than that. Once I got past that idea of one traffic light, this was a great read and went in a direction I never could have in anticipated. I once had an
interest in mythology and the trips to Hell were very graphic and frightening. I couldn't put the book down until I finished it. Looking forward to more books by this author
Muse is a plodding and infuriating read. First, the leading female character, oblivious about her identity, inevitably discovers who she is. As too often portrayed in books, she comprehends that she has been wrong and selfish throughout her self-awakening and, after recognizing these shortcomings within herself, apologizes to the noble male character who will sacrifice anything—his soul, in this narrative—to keep his fearful, insecure, vacuous damsel in distress from harm. Second, the premise of the book dissolves into sanctimonious drivel. In a nutshell, the world becomes inundated with heinous, “godless humans” who are destroying the world and, with the blessings of self-centered gods, systematically slaughtered, damned and consigned to the bowels of hell.

In the reality of the world, religious convictions, in conjunction with the seven deadly sins, are responsible for perpetuating prejudices and the greatest atrocities the world has ever known. If anyone else finds the theme of this or similar books as offensive as I do, please include a warning in a review.
